


A WGS degree can easily be combined with any other degree, fulfilling liberal arts requirements while also attaining a deeper theoretical analysis of society. The Gender Studies major offers you a unique interdisciplinary perspective on how gender shapes both formal knowledge and everyday experience. Identities and institutions permeate every aspect of society, and knowledge about them will be relevant to any area you go into. If you get a gender studies degree, you may or may not go directly into a job in which you sit at a desk from 9-5 doing 'gender studies' stuff. WGS graduates have gone on to use their skills in a variety of areas, including work within non-profit careers, domestic violence shelters, sexual assault prevention education, LGBTQIA centers, indigenous rights organizations, art and media, healthcare, politics, law, business, and more. Classes often include in-depth discussions, activism projects, art creation, literature, media, practical applications, and societal engagement. The womens and gender studies major explores how gender intersects with areas such as sexuality, race, ethnicity, religion, and other social identities. With small classes, dedicated faculty, internship opportunities, and an interdisciplinary class selection, students in the WGS program can expect personal attention and opportunities to incorporate their own topics of interest. You will learn how these identities and systems were constructed, how they affect people, and how change occurs. Transferable skills gained on a Gender Studies degree are highly regarded by policy makers, businesses and governing structures that understand the need to. Courses from other departments include Feminism and Film in Communication Studies, LGBTIQ Counseling. Courses include Media Representations of Gender and Sexuality, LGBTQ Studies, and Feminist Theory and Methods. Like any humanities undergrad degree, there arent really 1:1 degree to job equivalents (maybe there are and they just arent studied/measured).
